B&M Associates Limited – a brief history.

B&M Associates Limited began trading in the autumn of 1990. The founder member was the late Mr Ben Tyler who had previously worked for a Blue Chip manufacturing company for over 26 years, with his final 6 years managing the pallet and container pools. His previous employer recognised that their existing pallet management and container pools needed continued expertise in going forward and therefore offered Ben the position to operate as a Third Party contractor. Ben then recruited the services of his eldest son Mark who joined the business from inception, hence the name B&M.

From Ben’s existing logistical skills and knowledge B&M Associates introduced a tracking formula known as “The Closed Loop Principle.” This was a method whereby every single item of hire equipment would be identified and tracked around the Clients logistical network. Therefore ensuring that no single piece of equipment would leave the network without identification. Another key task was to verify all movement activity on a weekly basis. This allowed the ability to debit and credit a Third Party location with a proven balance. This simple yet immensely effective method is very much in evidence today.

In 1992 B&M Associates recruited the services of Mr Ray Bell. He like Ben was a previous employee of the same manufacturing Company and therefore had a sound background in the logistics field. The great benefit that Ray added to the business was his knowledge in computing and database skills. This has enabled the business to develop and expand by introducing their own in house software and database systems. This practise and service has proven to be of considerable advantage to both existing and new Clients as it enables clients to receive a tailor made package to suit their operational networks.

By operating as a dedicated service to tracking pallet and container pools, the business has been able to produce significant, and in the majority of cases, outstanding cost savings to clients. Over the last eighteen years this continued cot saving performance has led to a steady and consistent growth. Starting from one single client in 1990 the business has increased to accommodate a total of seven clients today, including the original client. The Company’s existing portfolio includes multiple UK and Western Europe pallet and container pools.
